This was a great one – I got the caller so wound up he actually told me to f-off! Sadly my mobile got a call so the last minute or so wasn’t recorded. I paraphrased the missing audio though at the end of the video.

Other highlights were going through every letter on the keyboard until I found the ‘flag’ key he wanted me to press.

This was an early morning call and it caught me off guard. However I mumbled something about ‘having to do something’ (i.e. set the phone recording) and asked them to start again saying who they were. Throughout the call they couldn’t make up their mind what company they were calling from.

The highlight though was being asked if I had a false leg!

For info they called from: 004588632589 and the call quality was awful!

It’s been a while since I recorded a phone scammer but I had another one today. I missed the first 30 seconds or so as I was fumbling with my iPhone to find the SoundCloud app which it appears I’ve managed to delete. Or Mini-MaFt has deleted… So I quickly launched up the Voice Memo app and hit record.

The results of my entertaining call from 009806553210 are below. It’s just over 30 minutes long though, but I think it’s worth it. Especially if you want to know my clothes size and how ‘maximise’ has changed my letter-writing experience.

I like to think I’ve done a public service – keeping these guys from the rest of the world for 30 minutes may have saved someone from getting duped.

I’ve been brought up to use Windows. Well, technically I started with a Tandy TRS-80, moved up to a ZX-81, Spectrum 48, Spectrum 128 +2, Sega Master System, SNES and THEN a Windows PC (95, 98, Me, XP, 7)… None of that is relevant but may get some old geeks reminiscing a bit!

Basically, in my proper computing years I’ve generally been a Windows user and had no major issues with it. I wasn’t OS-ist (I even have friends who are black, erm…, I mean who are Mac users) I just used Windows.

At the end of 2008 one of my bosses gave me his MacBook Pro (see here for proof: “…5 years later I’m on my third MacBook, one has been passed on to a colleague…”) as my Windows laptop was ageing rather badly. OK, I pestered quite a bit too to see what all the fuss was about Macs!! Continue reading »
